At the very outset I express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Allah, (Subhanhu Talaa) Who gave us the wisdom and strength to complete 50 glorious years ofthis philanthropic society to ponder over the plight of unprivileged and downtrodden Muslim communities living in the slums of Kolkata. The students and youngsters of the community felt the pinch most by the situation and became distressed, depressed and disillusioned. Most ofthe students were lagging behind the general streams in competitiveness. The selfless dedicated and enthusiastic young men dreamed of a philanthropic platform to uplift, the community from the quagmire of illiteracy and peril in distinction. We chose education the only means by which the lot of the community could be improved. It is the education which can make or unmake a nation. A healthy community can become an assets to the nation. Their dream transpired into the emergence of The Muslim Progressive Society on 5th April 1968. Our dedication and struggle for the educational endeavour were appreciated and supported by wide coverage through their newspapers by Janab Ahmed Sayeed Malihabadi, Janab Wasimul Haque and Janab Ibrahim Hosh.Two more dignitaries late Dr.Jawed Nehal was a long serving dynamic President of the Society and Janab Alquama Sibli, a sympathetic advisor since the inception of our educational endeavour. We salute all of them including Mr. Rusi B Gimi and Mr. KG Dossani both former Sheriffs of Calcutta, Late-Dr Habibur Rahim, Late Prof. Niyaz Ahmed Khan, Late Md. Atique both former President of the Society. Apart from them there were many many more enthusiastic sympathizers who supported us throughout our long journey. Once again I on behalf of our Society thanks all of you from the core of my heart and hope you will extend your kind support and co-operation in all our future propramme. Thank you and Allah-Hafiz.
